Yi-Ling Shih (b. 1998, southern Taiwan) began her musical training on piano at the age of six and started studying French horn at eight. In 2017, she commenced her bachelor’s studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Professor Markus Maskuniitty. During this period, she gained professional orchestral experience through a two-year internship with the Göttinger Symphonie Orchester in Germany and later as a substitute with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland.
Following her graduation from Hannover in 2023, she continued her studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki under Tommi Hyytinen and Jukka Harju. She completed apprenticeship periods with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Finnish National Opera, and subsequently held a four-month contract with Oulu Sinfonia. She has appeared regularly with professional orchestras including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish National Opera, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, the Lohja City Orchestra, and the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra.
Since February 2026, Yi-Ling Shih has been a member of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
