Fyrirlestur um Mendelssohn og Schumann á vegum Heimspekistofnunar

Þann 2. febrúar næstkomandi verður haldinn athyglisverður fyrirlestur á vegum Heimspekistofnunar sem ber yfirskriftina “Religious Kitsch or Meaningful Expression?” New Paths in Mendelssohn’s and Schumann’s Piano Trios. Það er Siegwart Reichwald, dósent í tónlistarsögu við Converse College sem flytur fyrirlesturinn en hann hefur einkum rannsakað tónlist Felix Mendelssohns, klassísk-rómantíska tímabilið og tónlistarflutning á ólíkum tímabilum. Hann hefur samið fjölda greina um tónlist eftir Mendelssohn, Brumel og Poulenc, og er höfundur bókar um óratoríu Mendelssohns, Paulus; auk þess er hann hljómsveitarstjóri Converse Symphony Orchestra. Fyrirlesturinn er hluti af hádegisfyrirlestraröð Heimspekistofnunar. Hann verður haldinn í stofu 225 í Aðalbyggingu, föstudaginn 2. febrúar, kl. 12:00. Aðgangur er ókeypis og allir velkomnir. Abstract: +++Getting to the content and meaning of a musical composition has always been a tough challenge for musicologist. Over the past two decades, however, a new approach to music interpretation has emerged in musicology, which encourages broader, interdisciplinary methods with an emphasis on (re)discovering the narrative content of music. This approach seems particularly well suited for music of the nineteenth century and its emphasis on subjective expression. Studies of this “new musicology” have led to reappraisals of much of the standard repertoire. New narratological readings of two piano trios by Mendelssohn and Schumann, often linked to religious kitsch, will serve as examples.
